Hiab Hire in Cambridge For Expert Coastal Water Tank Deliveries

Our Toughest Tank Drop Yet – Down a Raglan Bank and Into Place

At Reach Cranes, we’re no strangers to challenging jobs. But delivering 30,000-litre plastic water tanks from Cambridge to a narrow beach access site in Raglan? That one pushed us to think creatively, work carefully, and trust in our gear and experience.

A Windy, Tight-Space Challenge

This delivery wasn’t just about lifting and placing. It was about navigating intense coastal wind, tight residential access, and uneven ground, all while keeping two huge plastic tanks completely stable.

The drop site was tucked beside a beach house, accessed only by a narrow alley. There was no way a full-size crane could reach. That’s where our gear and problem-solving came into play.

Smart Steps, Right Equipment

We began by offloading the tanks one at a time. The space was too tight for a single large lift, so our mini crane and winch set-up became vital. Using a heavy-duty poly sheet and controlled winching, we carefully slid the tanks down the steep bank to reach their final location.

Once down the slope, we used a block and tackle to position each tank exactly where it needed to go — a clever workaround when angles and space don’t allow for traditional crane manoeuvres.

Why Our Mini Crane Services Excel

Our compact lifting gear made this job possible. The mini Hiab allowed for close access without needing a massive setup, and our experienced team knew how to work safely in windy, exposed terrain.

Hiab Hire Cambridge doesn’t just mean big cranes and big lifts. It means smart lifting solutions tailored to unique site conditions, just like this one.

Why Standard Services Couldn’t Handle This Project

This project highlighted several advantages of our specialised 4×4 Hiab operations:

Access advantages: Our mini Hiab can reach sites that standard crane trucks cannot access, while still providing the lifting capacity needed for large water tanks.

Wind management: The compact design and stability of our mini Hiab allowed us to maintain safe operations in strong coastal winds where larger cranes would have been unsafe.

Terrain adaptability: The 4×4 capability meant we could position our mini Hiab on the steep bank and narrow access route, adapting to the site conditions rather than requiring extensive site preparation.
